Elevating Knee Replacement Surgeries with the ROSA® Knee System

Ortho Central has always taken pride in being at the forefront of medical advancements. By harnessing cutting-edge robotic technology, we ensure patients receive top-tier patient care and surgical outcomes. A leader in this innovation is Richard Kirkpatrick, MD, who has been instrumental in introducing and integrating the ROSA® (Robotic Surgical Assistant) Knee System.

What is ROSA®?

The ROSA® Knee System isn't just another robotic surgery tool. This advanced system assists specially trained orthopedic surgeons, like Dr. Kirkpatrick, throughout the knee replacement process from planning to post-operative care. Unlike other robotic systems, which largely rely on the surgeon's judgment and experience, ROSA® provides real-time, intraoperative data about the patient’s anatomy.

“The procedure requires us to resect, or surgically remove, bone in the same way that we would if we were to do instrumented knee replacements before robotics,” Dr. Kirkpatrick said. “However, with robotics, since we can put those implants in a more optimal position, we hope to see that it will help the patient recover quicker in regard to range of motion and also over the long-haul with a more balanced implant that will wear less and last longer, so the longevity of the implant is greatly increased.”

Why Choose ROSA® Knee System at Ortho Central?

  • Enhanced Precision: The ROSA® Knee System utilizes advanced robotic technology to assist surgeons in achieving unparalleled precision during the procedure. This means that the implant placement and soft-tissue balancing are done with utmost accuracy, resulting in improved outcomes for patients.
  • Streamlined Workflow: The integration of ZBEdge™ Dynamic Intelligence™ into ROSA® allows for seamless communication and collaboration between the surgical team and the digital platform. This streamlines the workflow, reducing the chances of errors and ensuring a smooth surgical experience for both the patient and the medical staff.
  • Comprehensive Support: Ortho Central is dedicated to providing comprehensive support to patients throughout their entire journey. From pre-operative consultations to post-operative care, the team at Ortho Central is committed to ensuring that each patient receives the highest level of care and attention.
  • Cutting-edge Technology: By choosing the ROSA® Knee System at Ortho Central, patients can benefit from the latest advancements in orthopedic technology. The system's robotic assistance, combined with the data-driven decision-making, allows for a state-of-the-art surgical experience that is at the forefront of medical innovation.

Greater Flexibility in Imaging Options

Whether you're considering image-based or imageless options, ROSA® provides the versatility surgeons need. Some prefer the operational efficiency of working imageless, while others see the potential in utilizing image-based cases with X-Atlas 2D to 3D Technology.

Accuracy Beyond Conventional Methods

Recent studies highlight the precision ROSA® brings:

Empowering Surgeons and Patients

While the ROSA® system is advanced, it doesn’t alter a surgeon’s intrinsic technique. It only enhances it. Surgeons can maintain their surgical approach, quantify previously subjective information, and even predictively plan a balanced knee replacement before making any resections.

When to Consider ROSA® Knee Replacement?

Knee replacement, although highly effective, isn't the first course of action for knee pain. Consider the ROSA® knee replacement at Ortho Central if:

  • Your knee pain affects daily life.
  • The pain persists even during rest and affects your sleep.
  • There are noticeable knee deformities.
  • Other treatments have failed to provide relief.

Keeping Your Bones Healthy

Innovative technology and surgical techniques are exciting and provide an added level of security for patients who are going through that process, but Dr. Kirkpatrick has some advice that will help people avoid needing to undergo orthopedic surgery.

“In order to avoid being in my office for orthopedic issues, stay active and ensure that you are moving around and doing things. Especially with working conditions moving more towards desk jobs, something like getting a stand-up desk can help you stay on your feet and increase activity levels throughout the day,” Dr. Kirkpatrick said.

“Utilizing an exercise program where you are doing some strength training can go a long way, especially strengthening areas around the shoulder, hip or knees. The stronger those supporting muscle groups are, the more likely you will have good function. Even if you have issues with those joints they will be supported more and from a comfort perspective, they will be better that way,” said Dr. Kirkpatrick.

Taking care of your body and being proactive can go a long way towards protecting your overall health and reducing the likelihood of needing to undergo any sort of orthopedic surgery. However, if you ever find yourself needing a knee replacement, Dr. Kirkpatrick and his ROSA® Knee System are more than equipped to get you back on your feet.
